When my father was introduced to Tim Burton and to his artwork, the word I would use for his initial response was ‘tickled.’ I remember him telling me about this wonderfully quirky and immensely talented young Disney animator, who had created a short film about a young boy who wants to grow up to be Vincent Price. My Dad loved everything about it - the quality and originality of the pen-and-ink drawings, the Poe-like verse, and, of course, the recognition of his influence on Tim’s (and by proxy other fans’) childhoods. He was flattered, bemused, intrigued, touched, and excited! In a way, Tim’s project brought together many of the most important parts of my dad’s life - art, horror, humor, poetry - and gave them back to him in the most fitting tribute anyone could have paid. My dad knew it, and he was both moved and grateful. - Victoria Price
